Aarge Gorge
A trip to Switzerland which is considered as
heaven on earth can be started from middle of the country; Interlaken. It is a
good idea to have your hotel in interlaken.The first place to visit
Interlaken should be the beautiful Aarge Gorge and Harder Kulm; top of
Interlaken.
The Aare Gorge is a result of the limestock rocks, ‘Kirchet.’
This rock formation has hindered the flow of the Aare from the Grimsel region
thus leaving a beautiful sight to visit. A 40 minute walk on a well protected
bridge is mesmerizing. The Gorge is about 200 meter deep and just a little more
then a meter wide at its narrowest point.
A train from Interlaken station will take you to Aareschlucht West. A 10 minutes walk besides the river will
take you to Aare Gorge. There are two gates; East and West; you can enter from
any and exit from the other end. However, if you have wheelchairs and buggies
then it is advisable to go from the west gate as the east one has stairs.
You can buy a combine ticket for Reichenbach falls; a
funicular train would take you to these falls. Approximate cost of the combi
ticket would be around 12 CHF per adult.
Harder Kulm
You can spend your second half of the day at Harder Kulm;
top of Interlaken. This is also known as a two-lake bridge. From the top you
can view the two famous lakes of Switzerland; Lake Thun and Brienz. From this
point you not only can view the lakes but also the beautiful snow covered
mountains; the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. A 10 minute funicular train ride up
the mountain leaves a memorable experience. The view in the evening gives peace
to your eyes. There is a small restaurant at the top where you can enjoy your
dinner with a beautiful view.
You need to catch a train from Harder Kulm station which
is located near Interlaken Ost; the sign boards are conveniently located and
hence easy to find. The cost of the
train and entrance is about 30 CHF; however you get 50% reduction with Swiss
pass, and Tourist pass. If you have a Bernese Oberland Regional pass then you
travel free.
Tip- If travelling with kids; it is advisable to carry
small buggies instead of huge strollers to places like Aare Gorge and Reichenbach
falls. Also, the buggies are easier to fit in cable cars and funicular trains;
you will see many of these in Switzerland.
